Consultations are with a pharmacist certified in functional medicine. As a pharmacist I am not able to prescribe medications or hormones but am happy to work with your current provider if we feel either would be warranted and make the appropriate recommendations. I work with a collaborative team and the Institute for Functional Medicine to ensure you get high quality care and resources to help you achieve your health goals. These can include health coach referrals, functional medicine testing, patient handouts, and more. I hope you will consider my services to help you on your path to wellness and vitality.
Once you schedule an appointment you will be emailed a form to fill out prior to the appointment. This helps me to prepare for the appointment so we can best utilize our time together. Appointments are about an hour long. We will go through a timeline history to help determine the root cause of your complaints. From there we will look at your systems, identify causes of inflammation and dysregulation. We may need to order some functional tests to help determine what the cause is such as a food sensitivity test, micronutrient test, gut profile, an expanded cardiovascular panel, toxin test, or others. Together we will develop a treatment plan to get you on the right track.
Functional medicine treats the mind, body and spirit. This a very personalized approach to your health that targets the root cause of your symptoms. Treatments may include diet changes, supplements, movement, relaxation techniques, changes in social life or community, and others. We will work together to ensure your treatment plan is comprehensive, doable, and results driven. Often times we are able to slowly discontinue medications (with your doctor's approval), improve your symptoms, and help you incorporate healthy habits that are tailored to you to ensure health and longevity.
Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Functional Medicine is the practice of medicine aimed at treating the root cause of disease. It is a systems base approach, meaning it doesn't just treat a symptom. For example, a person may have acid reflux. Functional medicine will ask the question, Why? Is it a nutrient or acid deficiency? Is there an underlying infection? Is there an inflammatory reaction from certain foods? Traditional medicine would prescribe a medication to reduce the symptom but never get to the underlying cause. And as a pharmacist, I am very well aware that almost all prescription medications have negative side effects, especially when used long term. Functional medicine allows me to work with individual patients and take into account their whole health. Two patients may present with the same symptom, but have two unrelated causes.
The consultation itself is not covered by insurance. Often we are able to bill insurance for any tests that we may order, depending on your insurance and coverage.
Anyone who's health can improve can benefit from our help. We will work with you to achieve your health goals and thrive!
